Spanish I Syllabus
Course Description: In this course students will be presented with the basics of the Spanish language and an introduction of the various cultures of Spanish-speaking countries. The students will gain a proficiency in the language by practicing the four elements of language study; reading, writing, listening, and speaking. In the class the students should expect: 1. To do practice exercises from the book and from a workbook 2. To dunderstand and respond to statements and questions in Spanish 3. To take quizzes on the new material as it is presented 4. To take a major test, which will include an oral conversational section, at the end of each unit 5. Projects on culture
Required supplies: Each student is required to have a notebook and a pen/pencil. The students will use the "Realidades" textbook in the classroom and will have a two section workbook that goes along with the text. Both of these are stored in the classroom. (Each student will be given internet access to the book and workbook)
Course Outline: In level one, the students cover vocabulary dealing with numbers, telling time, weather, classes, classroom items, food, clothing, places, day of the week, and months, among other things. They will also learn such grammatical points as infinitives, negatives, adjective/noun agreement, verb conjugation, subject/verb agreement, pronouns, and the plurals of nouns and articles. They will also discuss the cultural similaritties and differences of Spanish-speaking countries, and compare these to culture in the U.S.
Grading/Assessment: Classwork/Notebook/Homework will be 25% of the grade. The quiz average will be 25% of the grade. The average of the major tests will be 50% of the grade.
General Information: The classwork/notebook/homework grade is based on the student's participation is class, their work on the assigned activities during class, and their work in the two sections o the provided workbook. Since the majority of the work is done during class time, attendance is very important. It is the student's responsibility to make up any work missed due to an excused absence.
Classroom rules: 1. Respect yourself, your classmates, and your teacher 2. Come to class prepared 3. Participate in class; practice with your fellow students 4. Study the material consistently 5. All rules from the student handbook are applicable to this class
Spanish II Syllabus
Prerequisites: The student must have successfully completed Spanish I.
Course Description: In this course students will continue with the study of the Spanish language and the various cultures of Spanish-speaking countries. The students will continue to gain proficiency in the language by practicing the four elements of language study; reading, writing, listening, and speaking. In the class the sutdents should expect: 1. To do practice exercises from the book and from a workbook 2. To understand and respond to statements and questions in Spanish 3. To be able to hold a conversation using basic Spanish 4. To take quizzes on the new material as it is presented 5. To take a major test, which will include an oral conversational section, at the end of each unit 6. Projects on culture

They will also lean such grammatical points as making comparisions, verb commands, present progressive tense of verbs, demonstrative adjectives, preterit tense, and direct and indirect object pronouns. They will also continue to discuss the cultural similarities and differences fo Spanish-speaking countries, and compare these to culture in the U.S.

Prerequisites: The student mush have successfully completed Spanish I and Spanish II.

The students will continue to gain proficiency in the language by practicing the foru elements of language study; reading, writing, listening, and speaking. In the class the students should expect: 1. To do practice exercises from the book and from a workbook 2. To understand and respond to statements and questions in Spanish 3. To be able to hold a conversation using Spanish 4. To take quizzes on the new material as it is presented 5. To take a major test, which will include an oral conversational section, at the end of each unit. 6. Projects on culture

Course Outline: In level three, the students increase their vocabulary that deals with school and extracurricular activities, clothing and clothing size, the body, shopping, places in a city, playground equipment and caring for children, holidays and celebrations, and medical terms, among other things. They will also learn such grammatical points as affirmative and negative ideas, making comparisons, the use of saber/conocer, the use of ser/estar, cardinal numbers, the use of object pronouns a a part of the verb, additional information on preterit and present progressive verbs, imperfect tense, imperfect progressive tense, present perfect tense, formal/familiar commands, future tense, conditional tense, and present subjunctive tense. They will also continue to discuss the cultural similarities and differences fo Spanish-speaking countries with an emphasis on modern customs, and compare these to present day customs in the U.S.
