Workday Report Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: If I come in to work on a day when school is closed for snow, may I count that as a workday?
- A: A maximum of three (up to 5 at the principal's discretion) of the 10 required non-school may be earned through working a minimum of 6 hours per day on days when school is closed due to weather.
- Teachers working on snow days must sign in and out in the office to supply appropriate documentation.
- Workday report should specify the instructional nature of the work completed on snow day.
- Q: Are scheduled in-service days when students are released at 12:30 and teachers remain until 3:30 counted as workdays?
- A: Early release days for students are regularly scheduled days for teachers and do not satisfy the requirement as school workdays EXCEPT when activities extend 3 or more hours beyond the end of the regular school day at 3:30.
- Q: May I earn workdays for college classes taken for renewal?
- A: A 3-hour credit class taken for recertification may count for a maximum of 5 workdays. These workdays may be a combination of school and non-school workdays but no more than a total of 5 days.
- Be sure to indicate the name of the course, college, and number of hours earned.
- Q: If I have to be absent (for example, maternity leave) for the last scheduled workdays, how can I make up these days?
- A: If you know you will miss calendar-specific workdays either at the beginning, end or during the year, you should work out an alternate plan for these days in advance. Some teachers who have been out on these last days have identified alternate days before or after the school year. Others have come to school on those days. This kind of alternative arrangement must be made in advance of the absence (whenever possible) and approved by both the principal and the superintendent. You can also count for the current year (with prior approval) summer PD events like Speaking for the Gifted in June or Celebration of Success in July. Typically those summer events would be included on the following school year, but you could add them to this year if you needed to.
- Q: I attended a professional development event during a school day; may I count that as one of my required instructional workdays even though it cannot count as one of my workdays?
- A: The short answer is absolutely. You are correct that attending a professional development event for which you have been granted professional leave cannot be included as one of your school or non-school workdays. It can, however, satisfy the requirement to participate in directly instructional professional development. Simply write the date and the event on the workday report form so that it is clear that you request to count the event as your directly instructional PD even though it is not otherwise reported on your workday report.
