Graduation Information

Diploma Requirements

DCPS will award diplomas in accordance with state laws and regulations in effect at the time the student enters ninth grade for the first time. (For detailed information regarding all types of diplomas and certificates consult the DCPS Student/Parent Handbook.)

The two primary diplomas awarded to DCPS students are

  1. Standard Diploma:  Students awarded a standard diploma must earn a total of 24 standard units of credit including 6 verified units of credit (earned by passing the accompanying end-of-course SOL test)
  2. Advanced Studies Diploma: Students awarded an advanced studies diploma must earn a total of 26 standard units of credit including 9 verified units of credit (earned by passing the accompanying end-of-course SOL test).

* A cohort is defined as all students entering ninth grade for the first time together four years earlier; i.e., Class of 2008 cohort consists of all students entering ninth grade for the first time in 2004.
