The goal of each Governor's School is to provide those who attend opportunities for intellectual as well as social and emotional growth. In the company of dedicated, highly skilled professionals representing a variety of careers, selected students are encouraged to establish and fulfill their academic goals. Presidents and presidential elections in the United States are issues we review and find fascinating, no matter how close we are to Election Day. These video chapters and web resources will assist students with understanding the election process, as well as the powers of and people behind the U.S. presidency.

Even though we are only a few years into the twenty-first century, we can safely say that few areas of our lives have changed as dramatically as communication.  Just when we started to get used to the idea of information literally at our fingertips through our computers and the Internet, the number of ways and the speed with which we can access information grew exponentially.  Now we can send and receive pictures and video, even watch TV and movies on our cell phones.  We can keep track of our friends and family wherever they are in the world through YouTube, Facebook, My Space, Twitter, virtual games, and other social networking tools. While all of these communications advances are exciting and filled with potential for good things, they also have tremendous potential for misuse.  It is critically important for the safety and well-being of our young people that both at home and at school they are provided with knowledge and skills to use these powerful tools wisely.

On this page DCPS will share information that we believe will help parents and their children as they navigate their way around the cyber world.
